The trailer gives enough information without giving away too much. The script of the film was written in 2018, but it was in 2020 that Dhanush said yes to this project. The film is set in the 1930s and its title is inspired by Tom Hanks’s Saving Private Ryan (1998).

Captain Miller went through extensive pre-production before going on floors in 2022. Shooting was done in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and other places. The film team also ran into controversy when it was rumored that they shot in the Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve without adequate permission. A petition was filed by the residents of Tenkasi against the team that detonated the explosives. Filming was eventually completed by November 2023.
